Warranty Solutions Group are delighted to have joined The Motor Ombudsman’s Vehicle Warranty Products Code, giving our customers another layer of protection and access to a range of support services.

This week, we were proudly accredited to TMO’s Motor Industry Vehicle Warranty Products Code – a code of practice relating to the sale of vehicle warranty products which is fully approved by the Trading Standards Institute.

The Warranty code, which represents 70% of the UK’s warranty providers and covers around 2 million consumers annually, is a set of guidelines that aim to drive up standards across the automotive warranty industry – even committing subscribers to higher standards than required by law.

It holds subscribers to a number of principles that include the publishing of clear, concise, jargon-free and accurate communications, product literature and advertising; the offering of advice and information to consumers inline with their needs; and going beyond any legal obligations.

In addition, it gives consumers access to a range of free mediation and arbitration support services. If the customer is unable to reach a satisfactory outcome with the warranty provider following a complaint, they can contact The Motor Ombudsman for impartial advice and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

What is the Vehicle Warranty Products Code?

As Code subscribers, our group of companies agree to be bound by the following five promises which make up the Vehicle Warranty Products Code.

We promise:

  • That our products are advertised honestly, and that we’ll make sure you’re given appropriate advice in selecting the right product at the point of sale
  • That we’ll give you clear pre-contractual information so you can make an informed decision on your warranty
  • That we’ll provide clear information on what is covered and not covered under your warranty
  • That you have a cancellation period of at least 14 days
  • And that we have a simple claims procedure to fairly and promptly process your claim

Bill Fennell, Chief Ombudsman and Managing Director of the Motor Ombudsman, said: “We are delighted to get 2022 off to a strong start by welcoming the Warranty Solutions Group to our Motor Industry Code of Practice for Vehicle Warranty Products. It remains our continued ambition to grow our portfolio of accredited businesses over the course of the coming year to provide today’s motorists with an even greater level of coverage by accredited businesses when taking out an extended warranty agreement for their used vehicle.”

Alongside warranties, the code also covers other automotive insurance and motoring products including roadside assistance, MOT insurance, tyre and wheel insurance and Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP).

Steph Newbery, WSG Group Director explains: “We are very pleased to be joining the Code. This not only reassures customers that our products are administered and managed in line with the guidelines stipulated by the Code, but that we are committed to providing the highest levels of service. It also means we and our customers have the ability to consult and use the expertise of The Motor Ombudsman should the need ever arise. Happy customers are our highest priority, and we will do whatever it takes to make sure their requirements are met.”

Steph added “Watch out for more exciting news coming soon. As a company, we have made fantastic strides forward in such a short period of time. Through hard work and our desire to be the best, together with TMO we can keep raising the bar.”
