UK’s Most Reliable Car Manufacturers 2025: Lexus, Toyota and Suzuki Lead the Way

Post Category: Dealer News
Post date: December 8, 2025

Through our latest analysis of real-time warranty claims, we’ve confirmed that Lexus ranks as the UK’s most reliable car manufacturer for 2025.

Drawing on more than 15,000 authorised claims, the study reveals that Lexus owners make the fewest warranty claims in the UK, with a claim rate of just 5.79% and an average repair cost of £639.23. Toyota and Suzuki complete the top three, reinforcing the long-standing reputation of Japanese brands for dependable, stress-free motoring.

Across the dataset, the average claim rate stood at 28.3%, with an average claim cost of £621.49 among all manufacturers included in the analysis.

How the study was carried out

To build a clear and realistic view of reliability in 2025, we analysed our live claims data across all warranties sold between October 2024 and September 2025.

Only manufacturers with more than 100 active warranties were included, ensuring the results represent brands with a meaningful presence in the market. In total, 35 manufacturers met this threshold.

The most reliable manufacturers in 2025

The headline story is clear: Japanese brands dominate the reliability tables.

  • Lexus – claim rate 5.79%, average claim £639.23
  • Toyota – claim rate 8.78%, average claim £431.47
  • Suzuki – claim rate 10.80%, average claim £447.94

Honda, Dacia and Mazda also performed strongly, each recording claim rates below 17%. Together, these results underline why Japanese engineering is so closely associated with long-term dependability.

Toyota’s 8.78% claim rate highlights its long-earned reputation for exceptional build quality and mechanical resilience. Suzuki’s result reinforces the brand’s strength in delivering simple, robust vehicles that rarely go wrong, while Honda continues to be regarded as one of the most durable, owner-trusted marques on the road.

For dealers, this creates a clear benchmark when it comes to stocking decisions, extended warranty offerings and aftersales strategy. For motorists, it offers a useful snapshot of which brands are most likely to deliver predictable, hassle-free ownership.

Premium brands and claim severity

At the other end of the spectrum, the analysis shows how premium and luxury brands tend to carry higher repair costs, often reflecting the complexity of their engineering rather than poor quality.

  • Bentley tops the chart for claim severity with an average repair cost of £1,749 per incident.
  • Porsche owners face average repair bills of £1,169 per claim.
  • Land Rover records some of the highest claim rates, at 48.45%, with an average claim cost of £946.77.

Land Rover, DS and Bentley all show higher-than-average claim rates, driven by the sophisticated technologies, advanced drivetrains and off-road capabilities that sit at the heart of their appeal. When faults do occur, these systems are typically more complex and expensive to diagnose and repair.

Rather than signalling poor build quality, these results reflect the maintenance realities of modern, high-specification vehicles, and highlight the growing importance of comprehensive warranty and aftersales support in managing long-term ownership costs.

The most common faults – and what they cost

The study also looked at which components fail most often, and the repair costs involved.

Top fault by volume:

  • Battery failures – 2.47% of all claims, average cost £283.97

Other high-volume issues include:

  • ABS wheel speed sensors – 2.43%, average £186.78
  • Water pumps – 2.36%, average £429.66
  • NOx sensors – 2.25%, average £655.60
  • Alternators – 2.10%, average £557.38

In terms of cost, two types of repair stand out:

  • Diesel particulate filters (DPFs) – average claim £1,393.82
  • Steering rack and pinion faults – average claim £1,296.07

While traditional wear-and-tear components such as batteries, sensors and pumps still dominate claim volumes, WSG’s data points to a clear trend: even routine repairs are becoming more expensive.

Modern vehicles are packed with electronic systems, driver-assistance features and tightly integrated components. What might once have been a £200 job can now easily exceed £500 once diagnostic labour, calibration and parts availability are factored in.

For motorists, this means a higher risk of unexpected out-of-pocket costs. For dealers, it reinforces the value of well-structured warranty products and transparent aftersales communication.

Why this matters for dealers and car buyers

Martin Binnee, Operations Director at Warranty Solutions Group:

“The data highlights how reliability can vary dramatically between brands, but also shows where the real-world risks lie for dealers and consumers alike. Common faults like batteries and sensors are predictable and manageable, but it’s the complex, high-cost repairs – like DPFs and steering systems – that can really undermine customer confidence if not addressed proactively.”

For retailers, understanding where those risks sit is essential to:

  • Protecting margins on used car stock
  • Tailoring warranty products to specific vehicle profiles
  • Planning aftersales resources and technical training
  • Communicating openly with customers about ownership costs

Martin continues:

“What’s clear is that data has become the foundation of resilience in the retail motor sector. Dealers who use claims data like ours to identify fault trends early, tailor warranty products to specific vehicle risks, and communicate transparently with customers will be best placed to thrive in 2026 and beyond. Reliability is no longer just a manufacturer talking point – it’s a commercial differentiator that directly shapes customer retention and profitability.”
