When it comes to hybrid reliability, Toyota continues to set the standard. A new study by Warranty Solutions Group (WSG) has revealed which hybrid cars are the most dependable on UK roads—and which ones could leave drivers with hefty repair bills.

After analysing thousands of real-world warranty claims over the last 12 months across 20 of the UK’s most popular hybrid models, WSG found Toyota leading the pack with an impressive clean sweep of the top three spots.

Toyota Corolla Hybrid – The UK’s Most Reliable Hybrid

The standout performer is the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, boasting a class-leading 1.32% claim rate and an almost negligible average repair cost of just £79.95. That makes it not only the most reliable hybrid in the country, but also one of the most affordable to run and repair.

For dealers, this means minimal warranty risk and strong resale value. For drivers, it means peace of mind and lower ownership costs—something every motorist can appreciate.

Toyota Yaris Hybrid – Small Car, Big Reliability

In second place is the Toyota Yaris Hybrid, another favourite for its urban-friendly size and efficiency. With a 1.69% claim rate and average repairs costing £462.05, it’s proving especially popular with city drivers, younger motorists, and families looking for a budget-conscious yet dependable option.

Its strong track record makes it a solid choice for fleets looking to cut emissions without sacrificing dependability.

Toyota RAV4 Hybrid – Rugged, Reliable SUV

Completing Toyota’s domination is the RAV4 Hybrid, which matches the Yaris’s claim rate of 1.69%, though its larger size and spec bring average repair costs up to £750.00.

Even so, the RAV4 performs well compared with rivals in the SUV segment, proving that bigger hybrids can still balance power, practicality, and long-term reliability.

Not all hybrids fared so well in the study. Models like the Range Rover and BMW X5 ranked among the least reliable, posting claim rates of 18.65% and 13.21% respectively.

Unsurprisingly, the repair bills matched the high claim frequency, often exceeding £1,100 per incident. For premium SUV buyers, these findings highlight the importance of looking beyond the showroom gloss to long-term running costs.
